The Upcycling Workshop, led by the Visual Arts and Design Department was one of the highlights of our Erasmus+ week, designed to combine creativity, teamwork, and sustainability. Students brought clothes from their own wardrobes that they no longer used, giving these items a second life instead of contributing to overconsumption and waste in the textile industry.

We were fortunate to have the collaboration of teachers from the Clothing and Fashion program at IES Clara Campoamor, who brought sewing machines, threads, fabrics, and other materials to support the workshop. Students experimented with different techniques, transforming old garments into unique, personalized pieces.

The activity encouraged participants to think critically about the environmental impact of fashion and to appreciate the value of reusing and redesigning clothing. It also fostered creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration, as students worked together to cut, stitch, and decorate the garments. By the end of the workshop, everyone had contributed to a collection of upcycled clothes, demonstrating that fashion can be both fun and sustainable.

This workshop complemented the other activities of the project, linking directly to the discussions on textile consumption and ecological footprints. By giving old clothes a second life, students not only applied practical skills but also deepened their understanding of sustainable habits and the importance of making conscious choices to protect our environment.
